Dear Gala Guru
I recently hosted a dinner party and just as we sat down to dinner, one of my guests started sneezing so loud and so often it was distracting the other guests. She said she was allergic to my centerpiece. Is that possible? She finally, had to leave the table and take some medication. How could I have known?
Baffled
Dear Baffled,
Two things you never want to hear at your dinner party. Pass the salt or the antihistamines, please. How could you have known? I have never sent out an RSVP with a medical questionnaire in advance. I do think it’s appropriate if you have fresh flowers to be sure they don’t have a high pollen count. Ragweed is pretty but better left outside. I’m no botanist however, I think most dinner table flowers are pretty safe. It’s probably best to check with your florist in advance or research it if you are making the arrangement yourself. You may want to consider silk flowers for the next soirée – they’re low maintenance and allergy-free, just like the perfect guest!
