Thanksgiving traces its roots to that historic feast over 400 years ago, when the Pilgrims and Native Americans came together to share a meal that symbolized peace and goodwill. Today, as our world feels more divided than ever, this spirit of unity and gratitude remains just as vital.
As we gather around tables groaning under the weight of holiday dishes, we’re carrying on a tradition that’s equal parts feast and fellowship. And what a feast it is! The average American consumes a whopping 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving – no wonder stretchy pants have evolved from fashion choice to survival gear. While we often blame the turkey’s tryptophan for our post-dinner drowsiness, perhaps we’re simply channeling our inner bears, ready to hibernate until Christmas!
But beyond the mountains of mashed potatoes and the parade of pies, Thanksgiving offers us a moment to pause and reflect. Whether you’re grateful for family bonds, good health, or simply that no one burned the turkey into a charcoal briquette this year, these little blessings make life unique.
My family has a beautiful tradition. No matter who is at the Thanksgiving table, friends or relatives, we go around the table, and everyone must say one thing they are most grateful for. It is a lovely way to make us all aware of our blessings.
So embrace it all – the food, the football, the festive parades, and yes, that inevitable couch nap.
After all, you’ll need that extra energy for the Black Friday adventures ahead!
Happy Thanksgiving – eat, sleep, and give thanks!
Remember, there’s always a reason to celebrate!
