Ah, August! We’re leaping into what I call the “Frog Days of Summer,” when even the most energetic feel the slower pace.
I have a giant desert toad in my yard, whom I have affectionately named Teddy. He hangs out in the bird bath every day reminding me that in this magical time when the mercury rises, we should embrace our inner amphibian, find a pool to hop into and let the opportunities come to us.
When the temperature soars, it takes me back to the backyard shenanigans of my childhood and how our parents convinced us that turning the crank for hours on end on the homemade ice cream machine was a sacred duty worth signing up for and the watermelon seed-spitting contests were taken as seriously as the Olympics. Bonus points if you could hit your sibling in the head with a slimy seed.
So, before you croak from the August heat, consider that it’s the time of year when popsicles could be a food group and ice-cold adult slushies are the perfect companion to sitting in the kiddie pool.
Slowing down and savoring the moment is the key to truly enjoying the Frog Days of Summer. So take a cue from my amphibious friend Teddy, find a calm spot, relax, and let the summer vibes of August wash over you like a refreshing splash in a cool pond.
Here’s to summer’s last hurrah – may your aim be true and your brain freeze brief!
Remember, there is always a reason to celebrate!
